So you like creating things
You’re not sure what specific job you want, but you like to create things, and feel a sense of pride when you finish designs and projects. Your casual supermarket job has helped you to realise the importance of printed material for applications across business. You may also be considering an apprenticeship or TAFE education which will give you the hands-on skills and knowledge you need. You want to get a head start on your career by studying VET in Year 11 and 12, and perhaps starting a traineeship or apprenticeship while at school so that you can learn about the printing industry on the job while being paid.
So you like mixing with people
You’re not sure what specific job you’d like but you like meeting people and helping them. You decide to keep your options open about whether you’ll start work straight from school or study at TAFE.
So you like organising things
All through your school life you’ve enjoyed organising things. You’re a natural at order and systems, and have easily managed your study tasks and timetable alongside a part-time job serving in a well-known fast food chain. A job in administration might be for you but you don’t want to be stuck doing the same thing forever, and aren’t sure what career prospects can develop from “office work”.
So you like using technology
Perhaps you are a creative person with an interest in new technologies or the rapidly changing marketplace. You’re interested to know what motivates people to buy what they do.
So you like variety in where you work
You’re not sure what specific job you want, but your casual job has made you realise the importance of having the skills to find a job that you enjoy doing, and for you this involves not doing the same thing each day. You haven’t decided whether a traineeship, TAFE of University study interests you more, so you’d like to leave your options open to both. To get an idea of what you may enjoy doing, you’ve decided to take a VET course in Year 11, which may give you a head start into TAFE or a traineeship. You have a particular interest in the growing areas of graphic design and multimedia development as you know you will be able to find room between the many industries that rely on these services. When you find a piece of work difficult to start or finish, you find that a change of scenery helps to motivate you, so the idea of travelling to meet clients excites you.
So you want to work with numbers?
Good with numbers and maybe fancy the secure, good money that usually comes with a job in the world of finance? You’ve been working casually since Year 10 and have enjoyed having your own money to buy the things you want. Handling cash is something you’re good at but find a bit boring.
